Asociación JennyStar is a Non Governmental Organization (Organización No Gubernamental), registered by the Guatemalan authorities.  The purpose of the NGO, aside from giving work to me and Guatemalan staff, is to donate ALL profits to support disabled and poor children in Antigua and surrounding villages.  By renting a DVD, you agree that your money, after deduction for our costs, will be made into a donation.  Click for details of the NGO.

In September 2006, JennyStar ONG started sponsoring local children, through Familias de Esperanza in Antigua. JennyStar ONG is paying for their education, clothing and healthcare for them and their families, dental care for the children, and a certain amount of help with their families' houses.  In the case of Brandon, our support is going toward his intensive healthcare, and for Rosa and Nelson, special education classes.

Rosa Angélica, 13, lives in Antigua, with her parents in a small house.  She is deaf and dumb and attends the special education classes at the Escuela Especial Hermano Pedro in the afternoons. Rosa likes her stuffed teddybears and likes coloring books. Asociación JennyStar NGO started sponsoring Rosa in May 2008.

Nelson Edilson, 12, lives San Cristóbal El Bajo with his parents, his older brother, 24 and his sister, 19.  Nelson is retarded following a serious illness when he was 3 months old.  Like Rosa, he attends the Escuela Especial Hermano Pedro.  Asociación JennyStar NGO started sponsoring Nelson in May 2008.

Jennifer with Brandon, who lives in San Luis Pueblo Nuevo, near Parramos, is 6 and has cerebral palsy.  He is receiving nutritional supplements, physical therapy and spent time in 2008 in a hospital.  He is now gaining weight again.  His older brother has cerebral palsy and in a single-parent family, their mother has a full-time job taking care of them.

Jennifer with Marvin, who lives in San Cristóbal El Cerrito, a small Antigua village high up on a hill, where a steep footpath is the only access.  He is one of 10 children in the family.  He likes mathematics at school and hopes to go to high school in Antigua.

Rosa and Jenny communicated by writing each other details of their families, dogs, cats and favorite foods.  Below is Jenny, Rosa and her mother Elba.

Jennifer, delivered gifts in early 2007, and again in 2008, that were donated in the shop by our customers, including nine months of food bags for each family, which we bought from Familias de Esperanza with the money donated by our customers.  Many thanks !

Between September 2006 and May 2008, we also sponsored Yanira, 18, who lives in San Pedro las Huertas.

She decided to discontinue her schooling, which we believe to be the most important feature of Common Hope's program.  We visited her in January 2008 and encouraged her to continue school. In May, when she stopped attending, we changed our support to two other children.

Education is the most important aspect of our sponsorship, paid for by money coming from your DVD rentals.
